We are happy to announce that on August 3, 2022 we opened a Center City location at 121 South Broad Street, 4th Floor. This convenient new location will be by appointment only. Howland Hess Birnbaum's main office location remains in Huntingdon Valley.
• Thomas M. Guinan and George P. O'Connell, Of Counsel
Howland Hess Birnbaum and its partners, Thomas M. Guinan and George P. O'Connell together announce that Mr. Guinan and Mr. O'Connell's statuses and relationships to the firm have transitioned from partner to "of counsel," effective January 1, 2019. Partner, David W. Birnbaum is honored to be assisting Mr. Guinan and Mr. O'Connell's clients, new and long-standing, in decedent estate administration, trust administration, estate planning, business formation and succession planning, and real property matters.

David W. Birnbaum joins Howland Hess Birnbaum as the firm's newest Partner effective January 1, 2019.
• John R. Howland, Of Counsel
The firm Howland Hess O'Connell, and its long-time partner, John R. Howland, mutually announce that Mr. Howland's status and relationship to the firm has changed. As of April 1, 2018, Mr. Howland's status as partner in the firm has ended, but he continues his relationship to the firm as "of counsel". While no longer remaining a part of the ownership of Howland Hess O'Connell, both the firm and John are proud that this long-time connection continues. He will continue in the practice of law at the firm's Huntingdon Valley office, and in the legal representation of clients, both long standing and new.

As of December 31, 2017, long-time partner, Michael W. Cassidy, and Howland Hess O'Connell announce that, while Mr. Cassidy will no longer remain a partner in the ownership of the firm, Mr. Cassidy will continue his relationship with the firm in an "of counsel" capacity. We are proud to announce that Howland Hess O'Connell associates, Karen F. Angelucci, Dennis R. Meakim, Karen C. Mavros and David W. Birnbaum have each joined Michael in the legal representation of current and new clients in criminal defense, family law, decedent estate administration and real estate matters.

On February 1, 2017, David W. Birnbaum joined Howland Hess O'Connell as a general practice Associate Attorney. David is a third-generation attorney; his grandfather, Robert G. Hess, is one of our founding partners.
• Dennis Meakim Elected as a Director of the Montgomery Bar Association
On January 8, 2016, attorney Dennis R. Meakim of Howland, Hess O'Connell was elected as a Director of the Montgomery Bar Association for a three year term. Additionally, Mr. Meakim was appointed Co-Chair of the Sidebar Committee of the Montgomery Bar Association. Click here for more information.
• John Howland Elected President of Conference of County Bar Leaders
Partner, John Howland, was elected on March 1, 2014 as President of the Conference of County Bar Leaders of the Pennsylvania Bar Association.
• Philadelphia's Broad Street Run
George P. O'Connell had another running connection on Sunday, May 6, 2012, when his daughter-in-law, Christine Kane O'Connell, finished in ninth (9th) place overall in the Women's Division, completing the ten mile race in 58.57.
• Congratulations Robert G. Hess!
We congratulate Robert G. Hess, a Veteran of World War II, who recently celebrated his 90th birthday and is currently in his 65th year of practicing law.

On April 28, 2012, during the 118th hosting of the University of Pennsylvania's Penn Relays Carnival, our partner, George P. O'Connell, was recognized for twenty-five years of service while officiating at the Penn Relays in the capacity as a Timer. He was designated as one of the Master Officials of the Penn Relays.
